 Working Group meeting with invited Academic partners (Universities) and student organizations. Date: 14th October, 13:00 - 15:00 at Latvian Chamber of Commerce Building , Kr. Valdemara 35, Riga, LV-1010.


Education and Training Committee*, aims and main deliverables are setting up Academic Partnerships for the Industry and Universities / High Schools in Baltics for development of joint learning and education projects. Joint research projects. Students best paper awards, scholarships and apprenticeship.

* Working group shall not cover trainings which are part of other ECR working groups and professional training organized by 3rd parties.

— Increase awareness of our industry (FMCG) within student community and wider audiences
— Improve profile of FMCG industry as an employer
— Support programs in Universities and improve integration between companies in industry and academic organizations
— All 3 Baltic countries covered (main Universities in each country)

Academic partnership, presentations within Universities

Purpose:
— Establish easy way for Universities / Professors to get people from FMCG industry to speak in University courses
— Increase number of speakers visiting Universities, bring industry understanding and practical examples to students

What this would mean:
— Establish “menu” of speakers covering different topics
— Communicate this “menu” within Universities as a ECR initiative

Next steps:
— Agree with University representatives if this approach is feasible
— Agree most interesting topics with University representatives
— Build list of speakers “menu)

Timing:
— “menu” can be establish by end of 2008 and further developed 2009

“FMCG course” as a part of University’s program

Purpose:
— Establish specific training course for FMCG industry, explaining dynamic of large operations and challenges faced.
— Use external speakers a core building block of the course, both to create overview and to give specific examples or case studies

What this would mean:
— Build program for specific course together with relevant professor
— Select speaker from industry to the course

Next steps:
— Agree with University representatives if this approach is feasible
— Establish contact to relevant teacher to build proposal

Timing:
— 2009 autumn period

ECR Baltic Student Award

Purpose:
— Give special attention to student projects / case studies covering FMCG industry (model as ECR Europe Student Award)
— Increase awareness of industry and challenges it is facing

What this would mean:
— Define criteria's for award and process to select winner(s)
— Define and agree price for winner(s)
— Launch Award as a part of ECR conference

Next steps:
— Propose to ECR board
— Launch in ECR conference

Timing:
— Launch November 2008
— First prize, spring 2009 and then next ECR Baltic forum

Providing Case Studies

Purpose:
— Give prepared case studies to Universities to be used as part of relevant training courses

What this would mean:
— Collect / create case studies which are including FMCG companies
— Prepare case studies so that these can be used in University education

Next steps:
— Agree with University representatives if this approach is sensible and useful

Timing:
— Collection / Creation of cases during 2008

Company Visits

Purpose:
— Give practical understanding of industry and companies operating within industry

What this would mean:
— Arrange visit to companies which has large operations in Baltics

Next steps:
— Agree with University representatives if this approach is sensible and useful
—Identify companies who have suitable operation to be shown (factories, stores, DCs…)

Timing:
— Company selection during 2008

Mentoring

Purpose:
— Establish one to one contact with student who has special interest towards FMCG industry
— Help students to understand industry and challenges it has, and focus in studies in way which is aligned with future potential roles

What this would mean:
— Selecting senior people in companies who are ready to became mentors of student and spend sometime with students in regular basis
— Establish a process how people can be selected

Next steps:
— Agree with University representatives if this approach is sensible and useful
— Identify people to became mentor and explain what mentoring is about

Timing:
— Can be started Q4 2008

Student EXPO

Purpose:
— Represent companies within industry and increase awareness of FMCG companies
— Establish contact with students interested about FMCG companies or industry
— Recruit summer interns / trainees

What this would mean:
— Preparation of company stands and presentation
— People to represent companies during student expo
— Arranging a day in selected Universities across Baltic capitals

Next steps:
— Agree with University representatives if this approach is sensible and useful
— Arrange a day in selected Universities

Timing:
— Q1 2009 (students start looking summer jobs or graduate positions)
